in St. Louis because World Series-Game 6 happened to get rained out.
The venerable former St. Louisan was back in town yesterday (as reported here several hours ago by the almost-as-venerable Joe Bonwich), and had some time to kill before flying back to NYC this morning. Meyer checked out Busch Stadium and downtown StL from perhaps its best vantage point, Three Sixty restaurant/bar atop the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark.
From there, accompanied by Pappys' Mike Emerson, it was off to Sidney Street Cafe for dinner, where Chef Kevin Nashan prepared a basic, no-frills, five-course menu (plus a rib course, courtesy of Pappy's).
Mike Emerson has known Meyer ever since he invited Pappys' team to participate in the Big Apple Barbeque Block Party three years ago, an offer Emerson had to decline as his restaurant was "still on training wheels." Emerson was invited back, however, and participated in the event the last two years, most recently feeding 10,000 people over the course of two days. Relish followed that story here and here.
There have been rumors swirling that Meyer may take over The Terrace View (as current operator Jim Fiala has indicated he would not be renewing his lease) and turn it into a more user- and family-friendly Shake Shack-type of place. When asked whether that could or would ever happen, Meyer ever-so-graciously replied that he "really doesn't do projects outside of New York."
Emerson, in retelling the dinner story to Relish, took a jab at his buddy Nashan: "Yeah, I told Kevin that mine was the only course he wanted seconds of..."
