Just as our January issue was going to press with an article about hidden gems along alternative routes ("The Roads Less Traveled," p. 20), we got wind that one of the businesses was closing. The Billy Goat Restaurant and Bar (1449 S. Vandeventer), a restaurant located in a historic building at the corner of Vandeventer and Boyle, shut its doors on Christmas Eve, after seven years in business.
The owners plan to carry on its legacy by selling their signature Billy Goat Chips (both wholesale and retail) and are scouting for a home for The Billy Goat Chip Company. Their plan is to include a storefront that will offer some of the old Goat’s signature menu items to accompany those chips.
We last heard that The Bully Restaurant & Pub would open in the old space, but as late as yesterday, there were no signs of life. -- George Mahe
