St. Louis chefs continue to get recognition on the national stage.
Cassy Vires, chef/co-owner of Home Wine Kitchen and Justin Haifley, Exec Chef/partner at The Tavern Kitchen & Bar have both been nominated for Food & Wine magazine's People’s Best New Chef: Midwest for 2013, an award just three years old.
Vires was first nominated for thre award in 2011; Josh Galliano (now of The Libertine) was nominated and won the award last year, joining nine other regional winners. (The editors of Food & Wine also issue an annual "Best New Chef" award: Gerard Craft of Niche won that award in 2008 and Kevin Willmann of Farmhaus in 2011.)
Voting begins today here and continues through March 18.
It's worth noting that St. Louis Magazine has bestowed its highest restaurant honor--"Restaurant of the Year"--on both The Tavern and Home Wine Kitchen, in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Congrats also go to SLM staff photog Kevin A. Roberts whose photograph of Haifley (below) is featured on F&W's website. His image of Chef Vires appears below as well.
