Bittersweet Bakery, one of the better--and better looking--bakeries in town, is closing up shop on November 23, per an announcement on their Facebook page this morning.
The South City bakery, open since mid-2009, is owned by Kurt and Leanne Russo, who are expecting a son early next year (who will join sister Valentine, now 18 months old). Bittersweet has received local critical acclaim, including a recent nod in SLM's "50 Best Breakfasts" cover story in the December 2011 issue, due on newsstands this week. The decision came "after many thoughts and much consideration." Anyone who has owned a restaurant and simultaneously tried to raise a family can sympathize.
The announcement on Facebook also mentions a final sale--bittersweet-ly called a "Thanksgiving" sale--to be held on Nov. 22 and 23, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m, one last chance to grab a pastry, cake, cookie, torte, or pie. Save a mini Roasted Apple Crumb Galette for us, please.
