Any respectable member of the local foodiverse knows that Steve McIntyre, former owner of Balaban's in the CWE, held onto its 4000 bottle stock of "library" wines (vintages of quality and distinction) when the restaurant changed hands in late 2006. Last November, the wines re-emerged on the retail shelves--and on the wine list--at the rejiggered Balaban's, a "wine cellar and tapas bar" in Chesterfield that McIntyre now co-owns with partner Brian Underwood.
The new Balaban's has held two wine dinners to date; the third one will be held this Sunday, March 21, and is notable for three reasons:
1. This is Balaban's first library wine dinner, featuring only wines from McIntyre's fabled stash.
2. The wines served at the event will be available for sale at 10% off the (already reasonable) retail price.
3. There are a few seats still available.
The menu and wine pairings are here. The restaurant will be closed for this signature event. -- George Mahe
