Astute foodies and readers of FEAST (ahem, the blog), will recall that Mike DelPietro expanded his runaway hit Sugo's Spaghetteria less than 90 days after its October 2008 opening in Frontenac, adding a 1200 SF room to the original 2500 SF footprint.
Just last month, he opened Babbo's Spaghetteria in Chesterfield, a near carbon copy of Sugo's, right down to its square footage. Word comes today that DelPietro is now looking to expand Babbo's as well, into the next bay, and yes, by an identical 1200 SF. Hey, if it's working for ya, Mike, sledge away...
Asked whether operating in Chesterfield is any different, DelPietro offered this: "At Sugo's, I know almost everybody; here, I cruise the floor and know almost no one. It's a little weird."
Back in Frontenac, work progresses on his slightly-higher-end wine and tapas bar, called Via Vino, located 2 bays from Sugo's and slated to open by Labor Day. Any bets those two places will eventually connect? -- George Mahe
