Back in 2006, one of my more enjoyable freelance writing assignments was a short profile for Wash U's alumni magazine on wine importer Peter Weygandt. I really enjoyed talking with Peter -- he clearly loved what he did, and it was clear those in the wine world respected him (Robert Parker used the term "impeccable" to describe Weygandt's palate and his company's portfolio). In my email box this morning came this news from The Wine Merchant:
La Dolce Via & the Wine Merchant are pleased to announce a rare & very special wine dinner with importer Peter Weygandt on Thursday, May 21st. Peter is one of the great importers of French wine into the U.S. and also has expanded his portfolio into Spain, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Australia. The hand-crafted, small production wines Peter brings into the states are from small family producers who have been making wine for generations.
When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21st
Cost: $85.00 per person (not including gratuity)
How: Call 314-534-1699 for reservations
Can't attend but want to know what wines attendees will be drinking? The menu's here. -- Stephen Schenkenberg
