Bad things come in threes...and possibly fours. Today's carnage:
After a highly-publicized and -marketed opening, Coyote's Ranch Grill & Saloon (4 Club Centre Court in Edwardsville) has apparently closed after only a six week run. On May 21, the restaurant was listed on Craigslist for $179,000, yet the next day, the following post appeared on Coyotes' Facebook page: " We have not yet shut our doors for good. We are closed for the time being to reconstruct and reorganize many things in the restaurant. Our plan is to reopen in June."
Late last week, Katie Shanahan, GM of the Market Grill (728 Lafayette in Soulard) informed Relish and the RFT's Ian Froeb that the restaurant would be closing on June 9, after a seven month run. It's a shame...both Froeb and Relish rather liked the place. Shanahan admitted she and chef Jonathan Olson knew they were " taking a huge risk" walking into "an existing restaurant with limited funds for advertising." Amen, Katie (and a big hello to all future restaurant investors). Olson later told Relish that he may return to school, but if he stays in the restaurant business, he may come out from behind the double doors and seek a front of the house job.
The Brazilian churrascaria restaurant, Bacana Brasil (16123 Chesterfield Pkwy West in Chesterfield) called it quits on May 20, as conformed on their Facebook page (the website has already been taken down). Some readers may find it interesting that the restaurant issued a half price ($30 for $15) deal with backpage.com on April 19.
Their sidewalk speakers were blaring when Relish passed by Jumpin' Jupiter (7376 Manchester) on our way to Foundation Grounds last Saturday a.m., yet this morning the P-D's Evan Benn retweeted the following pic on @EvanBenn. Jumpin' Jupiter, an improv/burlesque/comedy show/supper club venue replaced the dueling-piano bar Jive & Wail on the corner of Manchester and Sutton in Maplewood about a year ago. Relish attempted to contact Jupiter Studios (its owner also owns Jumpin' Jupiter), but was unsuccessful. In five words: more as we know it.
UPDATE: The P-D's Evan Benn updated his post on the fate of Jumpin' Jupiter with the following information:
A spokesman for the Jumpin' Jupiter's landlord said an agreement is being worked out between the parties that will allow the club to "continue to operate in the space for a long time to come." The immediate plan is to keep the restaurant and entertainment venue open for its upcoming performances. "There have been some struggles, as with many new businesses in this economic climate, but we feel good about the Jupiter's plans to streamline operations and expand into an even greater array of entertainment," said Jeff Albert, president of Red Brick, which manages properties for Maple King.
