Since “retiring” from reviewing restaurants for the Post Dispatch 3 years ago, Patricia Corrigan has barely taken the time to retire into an easy chair. Besides teaching creative writing classes, she has written several books, the latest of which is required reading for anyone with even a passing interest in the local food and drink scene. Eating St. Louis: The Gateway City’s Unique Food Culture is the distillation of interviews from 130 restaurateurs, food manufacturers, grocers, wine specialists, you name it--there are anecdotes from last year and the last hundred years. But this is no yawning historical narrative…former newspaper reporter Corrigan dug for the obscure angle, the back story, the I-never-knew-that fact. It’s a great read for any St. Louisan, past or present, but for the local foodie, it’s a page turner. Even the book signings sound fun. -- George Mahe Saturday October 18 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Ferguson Farmers’ Market (Free) Tuesday October 21 7 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum (Free).
