Urban Matter's South Grand location so far as the co-owners shift gears from the "messiest part" of relocating to the fun—interior decorating.
Urban Matter, the Dutchtown boutique that is known for its unique home goods, is relocating to 3179 S. Grand Boulevard, open July 20.
Despite the move, the general framework Urban Matter will remain the same. One change, however, is the inclusion of products from Gus’s Modern Furniture and the option to choose from fabric swatches to purchase an item that is not physically on-site.
The store’s co-owner, Mary Hennesy, is eager for the change. “We had been on the search for a year and a half looking for a larger space," Hennesy says. "While much of the move was about space, or the lack thereof, in the old location, a larger part is also about location centrality." She says that while the shop has become a destination location in Dutchtown, the new space promises more food traffic.
This will be good news for Urban’s fans; the same charm and unique décor offered as the old place will now be available with more room in a more commercially dense neighborhood. The move's "messiest part's now finished," Hennesy says, and she and the store's co-owner (Hennesy's wife) Amy Schafer can focus on the getting the interior of the store ready.

The old location, which is also Hennesy’s home, will remain in use for any events the store will host. Still, Hennesy says she there are some parts she'll miss. “I’ll miss working from home," she says, "but I’m looking forward to having a separation."
Urban Matter will reopen on 3179 S. Grand Boulevard on July 20, open Tuesday to Saturday 11 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
