On the Board
While Pinterest is the modern version of the inspiration board, the classic corkboard is still a fabulous way to display your most cherished thoughts, ideas, and aspirations. Its “fashion editor” effect adds creativity to a room, so go ahead and let go of what you think should be there and instead post images or clips of things that truly move you. Over the years my board has evolved from runway images and coveted hairstyles to my daughter’s drawings, family photos, and favorite recipes. Redecorating your home? Pepper your board with paint swatches and fabric samples. Honeymooning in Hawaii? Pin vacation photos, restaurant menus, and colorful leis. Every time you take a respite from work you’ll be revitalized by a board full of vacation memories.
Top Shelf
The best ideas are those that come from thinking outside the box. Rifling through a stack of your favorite magazines can often provide a mental breakthrough when foraging for creativity. When stored neatly, books and magazines offer a perfect anchor for stylish vignettes and shelving.
Something Pretty
There’s nothing like a fresh flower arrangement to spruce up a home office (I grow pink peonies and love to display them casually in short vases), but if a weekly flower allowance isn’t in the budget, consider investing in something a little more permanent. A beautiful bowl filled with red apples serves double-duty as both home décor and healthy mid-day snack. Items like gourds or pumpkins add an instant jolt of fall inspiration. Mirrored letters (a glamorous twist on their vintage counterparts) spell out your life’s mission and provide ample motivation to see you through the toughest work projects. Love the ocean? Faux coral (my current obsession), lends serenity to hectic spaces.
