When St. Louisan Kerry Samuel first launched her online shop, Detalle Boutique, in January 2017, it was her dream to open a brick-and-mortar store as well. After nearly a year of scouting locations and overseeing construction, the new shop (2961 Dougherty Ferry) quietly opened its doors in Valley Park in late December.
The shop carries a variety of ready-to-wear women’s clothing and accessories, from clothes you can wear to work to yoga pants to fair trade beaded clutches that are handmade in India.
“I was in the professional world, so I understand what it’s like to have a wardrobe that needs to work for work and play,” says Samuel, who spent 10 years working in international business. “I try to carry good transitional pieces that you can wear from day to night.”
Samuel also makes an effort to cater to different body types by carrying a wide range of sizes. “I’ve had personal struggles fitting in some of the boutique clothes,” she says. “I’m trying to carry, where available, small through 3X. Half of the store probably has plus-size items.”
Detalle may be small at 1,000 square feet, but Samuel takes every detail into consideration. (The store’s name even comes from the Spanish word for “detail.”)
“The details mean everything. In the customer’s experience, it’s all about every little piece, the clothes, the experience, the feel,” she says. “I want to give a personal experience where customers are comfortable asking questions, trying things on, and taking their time.”
The shop will hold a grand-opening celebration on Saturday, February 10. Stop by during normal business hours to check out new spring arrivals, and get a free gift with every purchase.
Detalle Boutique is open from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. on Wednesday; 10 a.m.–6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; and 11 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sunday.
