Take a second look at our spectacular cover image this month—a sophisticated kitchen design by Retta Leritz rendered in soft green granite, warm cerused oak, and touches of shimmery brass—and revel in the knowledge that the work of St. Louis’ design and architecture community continues to grow in originality and excitement. We celebrate this work with a portfolio of winning designs from the Architect & Designer Awards competition, which this year drew more than 350 submissions across 39 categories. Our panel of renowned judges—Lonny managing editor Angela Tafoya, architect and author Arrol Gellner, and interior designers Joe Human, Shea McGee, and Miles Redd—shared their time and talent for identifying great work by reviewing each project submission. With 2018 turning out to be our largest competition to date, this was no small feat.
With all that to be enthusiastic about, we think the time is right for us to share some more exciting news. Beginning with the May/June issue, At Home will have a new name: Design STL. Though our focus will remain on local interior design and architecture, our new title gives us some wiggle room, which we’ll happily use to explore and deepen our commitment to the topics you care about the most: your home and garden, historic and contemporary architecture, and style as it’s defined in St. Louis.
Think of this small but impactful act as you would a refresh at home: Sometimes you just need something new, like a livelier paint color or a work of art for the living room wall, to remind yourself that, with change, new adventures and opportunities are all but guaranteed.
But back to this issue. Don’t miss writer Sarah C. Truckey’s story “Designer Road Trips.” Her picks for drive-worthy destinations with a focus on design will get you thinking about how you might spend that next long weekend. It certainly moved me to consider journeys closer to home. Columbus, Indiana, anyone?
