St. Louis architect Arthur Florian Payne built this two-bedroom home for himself in 1940. The most recent owner renovated the building, maintaining the elements that make it a Hollywood regency–style ranch, but modernizing the kitchens. It features floor to ceiling Jeffersonian windows, a great room with 12-foot ceilings, built-in shelves for artwork, detailed mantles on three fire places, and Grecian details on the exterior and the heating ducts. The back yard boasts a trellis and a garden area, in addition to lawn. A basement and two-car garage were added in a 1997 addition.
