Interior designer Amie Corley loves to cook. It’s just a part of life for the Louisiana native, who now lives in a turn-of-the-century house in the Central West End.
“Lobster rolls are about the easiest, quickest, most delicious recipe you can prepare,” she says, referring to the main menu item for a friend’s birthday party she’s hosting the following evening.
Since beginning renovation on her kitchen last February, Corley hasn’t spent as much time as she’d like cooking, though she’s certainly been consumed by all things kitchen-related: the white subway tile, the brass bin pulls for the drawers, the made-to-measure cabinetry, the heated floors from STEP Warmfloor…
Then there’s the kitchen’s crown jewel: a gleaming black-and-gold 36-inch range by La Cornue, the century-old French artisanal producer of ranges and rotisseries. “I always dreamed of owning one,” Corley says. “I just never thought it was possible.” The 1908 model stands surrounded by creamy Olympian White Danby marble.
“I had to make choices; I had to set my priorities,” says Corley. “We saved for a long time. I’m so glad we waited.”
