The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis (100 Carondelet Plaza, 314-863-6300) has just gotten a little more luxurious. In mid-July, the Clayton hotel unveiled a major transformation: the redesign of all 299 rooms and suites, as well as the corridors and gathering spaces.
Jinnie Kim, president of Boston-based Jinnie Kim Design, the firm that handled the redesign, calls the finished product “timeless but sophisticated.”
The warm tones of the previous design—which was last refreshed in 2009—have been replaced with “a neutral palette with hints of icy blue accents to achieve a soft, serene look that evokes the tranquility and elegant simplicity of a luxury spa setting,” Kim says.
The new design also includes dark wood finishes, leather and chrome accents, and blue and gray linens—touches that Kim says will appeal to both business and leisure travelers of all ages.
“We actually devoted our efforts to focusing on all of the minute details of each new furniture piece, but in such a way that the impact was one of combined elements rather than a single, distracting, standout piece,” she says. “The subtle details were incorporated to add luxurious quality without distracting from the overall tranquil space.”

For Kim, the biggest challenge of the project, which took about a year and a half, was creating the best design while staying within budget and upholding The Ritz-Carlton’s “proven design standards.” She credits good communication and coordination with helping the project run smoothly, which “sets this renovation apart from many others.”
During the process, The Ritz-Carlton’s second-floor meeting rooms also were updated to match the sophisticated interiors of the ballroom wing, which was renovated just over a year ago.
“We are delighted to share these beautiful new guest rooms with guests, and the early response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Amanda Joiner, the hotel’s general manager, said in a statement. “These recent upgrades even further position the hotel as a luxury oasis for business travelers, families, and St. Louis staycationers.”
