After in-home consultations with clients, Julie Baur and Carrie McLean hold meetings at their studio. The designers use an ever-changing idea board to pin photos of furniture, hardware, lighting, and fabric swatches. “We don’t do the whole cookie-cutter thing. We look for the unexpected,” McLean says. A white table serves as the room’s centerpiece. Baur and McLean work there, side by side. Two points of view, two creative minds spinning clients’ dreams into spaces they’ll love. “Sometimes clients are overwhelmed by big showrooms. In our small space we’ve curated our selections.” Both women are mothers, and children are always welcome in their studio. The laid-back atmosphere, they say, fosters an easy exchange with clients.
