I am getting ready to paint our small 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. I have selected a light khaki and plan on taking the color from the entry way, the livingroom and down the hall way to the kitchen. Here's my question. The living room is very small and we have a fireplace with alcoves on either side at one end of the room. The mantel is currently a maple color. Should I paint the wood surround in a different color? If I painted the fireplace in a lighter color to cooordinate with the khaki will it make my room look even smaller? I just am not sure what to do with the fireplace and the wall it is on. Thank you.
I would consider painting the fireplace a darker color. If the khaki you are using is fairly light go a few shades darker in the khaki and use that for the fireplace. It will highlight the fireplace. This is appropriate since the fireplace is a focal point in the room.
