The Interior Design Center of St. Louis has long been a hot spot for local interior designers to shop for their projects, but retail consumers can also visit the complex, located in Maryland Heights, for the latest in luxury furniture and home decor.
“My idea was to have a compact design center of locally owned businesses,” says owner Kevin Kenney, who founded the center in 2005 when he purchased the property originally known as Sunshine Drapery Plaza.
“I wanted to be like the Home Depot of high-end interior design,” he says. “The customer who was doing a luxury remodel or build had to run all over the metro area. You had to select tile in South City and lighting somewhere else. In big cities, all major markets had a design center.”
Today, designers and consumers can shop for fabric, wallcovering, furniture, hardware, and appliances in the various showrooms.

Good to Know
Who can and should visit? While you’ll see many professional designers visiting the showrooms for or with their clients, homeowners can also shop there. Though consumers are welcome to purchase items, Kenney recommends working with a designer to better navigate the many lines, collections, and custom orders.
Do I need an appointment? All showrooms are available for the public to browse during business hours, but some require an appointment. Be sure to call and make an appointment at the company that you wish to visit.
What should I wear? Wear comfortable shoes. Afterall, the complex spans more than 100,000 square feet. Each showroom is located indoors but an outdoor plaza connects them. Bring an umbrella if it’s raining.
What’s the vibe? The showrooms are filled with experts who are happy to answer questions. The beautiful displays offer lots of inspiration for your own home.
