Normally when I think of Valentine’s Day, I think of romantic dishes. I love making chocolate soufflés in heart-shaped ramekins or heart-shaped pasta for two. But Valentine’s Day doesn’t only have to be about romance—it can also be about friendship.
Recently, my friend had a Valentine’s Day-themed party for her girlfriends on a Wednesday night. It was simple and fun, and I’m hoping she will make this a yearly tradition.
It started with an emailed invitation to come to her house for a movie during the week. “Wear comfortable clothes. Pajamas and slippers welcome,” it read. I was in.
Once we arrived, she handed us a glass of pink champagne. We then went to her basement where she had set up a table with a huge bowl of popcorn. She gave us each adorable Valentine’s Day bags for us to fill. Butter, olive oil, special salts, and seasonings were placed nearby to top the popcorn as you wanted.
Next to the popcorn, she had Valentine’s Day-themed candy, including pink, red and white M&Ms; Rolos in Valentine’s Day colors; Red Hots; Twizzlers; and traditional Valentine’s Day heart candies. She gave us each little Valentine’s Day cups to fill.
For our viewing pleasure, we were each given our own blanket, and we watched a chick flick that none of our husbands would have wanted to see.
If you’re looking for an alternative way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, look no further. This was perfection, and it would also be a great party for kids (minus the pink champagne).
