Are you looking for a one-of-a-kind gift for your wife? For your son? How about for your best friend who’s getting married next month?
Consider a mother-of-pearl pill box, a pair of Baroque-inspired earrings, a marble-and-bronze letter holder, or an antique, wooden cigar box.
Beginning today, St. Louisans with a taste for the refined and the unexpected can shop for gifts at The Gift Horse, run by interior designer David Kent Richardson, out of his storefront on Marconi Avenue on The Hill.
Shoppers have the option of visiting the store or placing orders via phone or email. Online shopping is also available. To find the best fit, shoppers will be prompted to answer a series of questions, and Richardson’s team will respond with pictures of three gift options in a range of price points.
“I’m presenting gift-giving the way you never thought of it,” says Richardson. “I want to offer people an alternative to local gift baskets and flowers and chocolates, though those can certainly be combined into a package.”
In a twist to gift-giving, Richardson is partnering with local artists and creatives to create unique gift experiences. Look for items from metalsmith Peggy Fetter; ceramic artist Nancy Holtz, who uses an ancient Greek technique of glazing and pottery making; and restauranteur Ben Poremba, whose new venture, AO and Company, will carry a curated selection of items by Richardson.
“This business is all about customer service and getting people out of a bind,” says the designer. “I want to save husbands from getting into a whole lot of trouble, if it’s late in the day and he forgot to buy a gift for his wife.”
Same-day delivery is available.
