Buff City Soap is quickly making a name for itself in River City.
After rolling out three area shops earlier this year—in St. Charles, Chesterfield, and Arnold—franchisee Ozark Soaps LLC is adding another location in Kirkwood. Located at 1050 S. Kirkwood Road, near the Target in Kirkwood Commons, the new store is slated to open this Thursday, September 23.
The first 50 people who visit the store each day from September 23–26 will receive free soap for a year. Customers who visit during opening weekend can also take advantage of in-store specials.
Although the Dallas-based brand now boasts more than 80 stores nationwide, the company began in the Tennessee garage of former firefighter Brad Kellum and Jennifer Ziemianin in 2013. From the beginning, the co-founders put an emphasis on plant-based, cruelty-free products that are handmade daily from environmentally friendly ingredients, rather than harsh chemical or animal fats.

Buff City also prides itself on the transparency of its soap-making process. Customers can choose between more than 30 scents—the most popular include Narcissist Soap (with hints of peaches and raspberries) and Good Morning Sunshine Soap (with a “burst of citrus”). Customers can also try free soap bar and body butter samples. After choosing their desired scents, customers can customize the handcrafted products, including soap bars, bath bombs, and foaming hand soap. (The company also offers other washing and cleaning products, including laundry soap and wool dryer balls.) Every product is then crafted by a local artisan at the makery.
“It's a fun atmosphere just to come in and watch the soap be made,” says district manager Jennifer Rice. “We want our customers to know what they're putting on their skin and the ingredients that we put into our product."
