The 5 Serving Classic Plate Grill.
With Labor Day around the corner and barbecue on everyone’s mind, I would normally be writing about a recipe to throw on the grill or a side dish to serve. This year, I’m leaving that to others.
Years ago, my mom gave me a George Foreman grill. Not wanting to be rude, I said thank you and thought to myself, “I will never use this.” Why would I need a Foreman grill? I have a nice, outdoor Weber grill conveniently situated close to the house that I use for my day-to-day cooking. Sure, it can get a little hot standing outside, sometimes it’s a little chilly and even rainy, but for the most part I’m waterproof.
About a year ago, I tried to start my outdoor grill only to find that I was out of propane. A friend was over and had picked up something to cook. What was I to do? I thought about the Foreman grill and remembered that I had it stored somewhere in my house. It was time to remove the Styrofoam and give it a try. To my amazement, I liked it.
Since then, I have reluctantly become a fan of the grill. It is forgiving and is perfect for small meals. My son likes to eat turkey burgers for lunch on the weekends. Making them in the grill takes five minutes, with very little clean up and not a whole lot of observation required. Want a good way to reheat a panini without drying it out or making it soggy? How about creating a hot sandwich? Look no further. If you need a quick chicken breast to throw on a salad or in a sandwich, it’s ready in no time with most of the fat removed.
If I want a steak or want the look and feel of real barbecue, I’ll opt for my outdoor grill. But for quick, everyday meals, the Foreman grill has its place.
Sorry I doubted you, George!
