Courtship: Like many modern courtships, Hannah Edler’s and Matt Stobart’s began with a mutual acquaintance and a Facebook friend request. The St. Peter natives met four years ago. Matt was both a friend of her sister’s and a friendly face at the Quick Trip she frequented. He messaged her about Fourth of July plans, and the couple enjoyed a first date strolling along the St. Charles riverfront under the fireworks. Hannah, Matt, and, their son, Wyatt, live in St. Charles. He works in sales, while she studies counseling at Missouri Baptist University.
Proposal: Hannah remembers gratefully that her singular proposal criteria, not a holiday, was met. The day after Christmas, Matt took her for what seemed like a casual lunch at Trailhead Brewing Co.. When he suggested a walk along the riverfront afterward, she was a bit puzzled—”It’s freezing outside, and we don’t even like exercise,” she said—but agreed anyway. They arrived at the bridge, which Matt’s sister lined with rose petals and candles. Down on one knee, as Matt proposed, Wyatt appeared with the sign, “Mom, say yes!”
Ceremony: The couple knew they wanted an outdoor venue, and, the pastoral views and intimacy of Noboleis Vineyards sold them instantly as the perfect one. Ten minutes to ceremony, a massive storm cloud gathered overhead, but the brief rain miraculously held off until dinner. Wyatt escorted his mother down the aisle. They performed a special sand ritual to signify the blending of their families. Not about to miss out on the spectacle, Matt’s 4-year old nephew army-crawled from the front row to join his dad, co-best man, at the groom’s side.
Reception: More important than anything for Matt and Hannah was that family and friends enjoy a relaxed, fun, evening, in a beautiful place. The winery gave them all that, and more. The décor gave them garden vibes. Guests dined and danced in a tent adorned with twinkling white lights and bouquets of pink delphiniums and eucalyptus. Hannah’s favorite piece of décor was also the punniest: a seating chart created by her father-in-law that read, “Please be seeded.” Favors included personalized flower seed packets. For Matt, spending time with relatives from across the country created some of the most meaningful memories of a night that flew by in a perfect blur. When Hannah and Matt describe their wedding day, they can’t imagine a single thing that could’ve filled it with any more love and joy.
