Jackie Price and Beth Watkins knew they wanted to marry each other. They even discussed each proposing to the other—so they could both have the experience—and looked at ring styles. Like the saying goes, great minds think alike, and in Jackie and Beth's case, they each landed on the same idea: propose to one another during their anniversary month. But they didn't foresee just how close together the proposals would be—just a day apart.
Two years ago, they fell in love in October. So as the fall month came around, Jackie says she knew there was a good chance they would both propose.
"We kind of both realized, 'Oh, we're proposing within a month of each other,'" says Beth. "That should be fine. But I don't think I had any idea that we were planning proposals for the same weekend. All of our friends knew, though."
Living in Tower Grove, the couple says the park had become a staple in their relationship and the location of their second and third dates. So on their second-year anniversary, Jackie arranged for the proposal, fit a ring with branches from the park itself, and even flew in some of Beth's closest friends.
"It all kind of became a blur. I don't remember anything that I said or anything at all. I just remember feeling so overjoyed, like, 'Oh my gosh, I did it,'" Jackie says.
She hung string lights, paced a bit, and then rain brought anxieties. She hit a point, she says, where she told herself that no matter what it would be perfect and they would always remember the moment.
For not discussing what the other wanted, a picturesque proposal with her friends and family waiting among the trees had Beth thinking, "How in the world did she get this so perfectly?"
Beth's proposal to Jackie, which led Jackie on a scavenger hunt through Tower Grove's farmer market, had a similar reaction. Based on of Beth's behavior—nervous, not sleeping—Jackie said she had a feeling a proposal was near. So she tried to remain calm...with little avail.
"I was not at all prepared for it. As soon as I realized what was happening, I burst into tears. I just thought, 'How does this person know me so well?'"
The two have been met with support on social media, after the farmers' market shared the latter proposal on their Instagram.
As for the wedding, the two are in no rush. But they know their nuptials will likely match their proposals, filled with friends, family, and rooted in their personalities.
