Stephanie Wolf, of Sunset Hills, and Dan Henschel, of Clayton, have known each other since grade school, but they didn't really talk to each other until 2010, when Henschel was in college and Wolf was just starting. They had a brief flirtation, but ended up dating other people until in 2015, Henschel reached back out to Wolf. The two picked up their friendship where they left off and Wolf says she knew they were going to get married one day.
Proposal: After telling his then-girlfriend that he would spend the day golfing (and even packing a golf bag), Henschel surprised Wolf and her friends at Chandler Hill in Defiance. The group was walking to take a picture by the vineyards, when, after turning a corner, Wolf saw a trail of rose petals leading up to Henschel. Then, more family and friends popped out from the bushes, making the proposal feel like a mini wedding, Wolf says.
Ceremony: Both of the Catholic faith, Henschel and Wolf wanted a traditional church wedding but were looking for something big and beautiful. After visiting Shrine of St. Joseph, the two were “blown away” by the massive church's architecture and beauty. Wolf's brother in the military returned home just before the wedding and was able to be a groomsmen. With Henschel having a bit of resemblance to Prince Harry, many attendees dubbed the ceremony a mini royal wedding, to which Wolf's father joked that with the bill, it definitely was.
Reception: The celebration needed a backdrop both elegant and spacious. Union Station Grand Hall did not disappoint. With greenery, roses, and eucalyptus, the interior felt romantic, and bonus—it matched the bridesmaids’ dresses. Guests were able to dance to the live band's ’90s set list while an artist painted the moment onto a canvas. The artwork now hangs in the couple's Sunset Hills home.
