A cohesive group, more than a sum of its parts.
When hanging a group of art together in one room, think of the collective pieces as a single unit and use them together to achieve an overall balance in the space.
For example, don’t hang all of the large pieces on one wall and the smaller pieces on another wall. Be sure to incorporate different sizes of art to avoid creating a monotonous, predictable space. If you have a large piece over the sofa, use a smaller piece or a grouping of smaller pieces on an opposing wall in order to compliment and balance the large piece. The objective is to create an overall balance and a relationship between the art itself.
Selecting and displaying art is an art in itself. Experiment to discover which arrangement achieves balance and harmony in the room. By hanging your art in the place that it looks the most natural, you will create an environment that not only complements the art but one that you and guests will feel most comfortable in.
