As I am anxiously waiting for the 49ers and the Ravens to battle on the big game, (Okay, who am I kidding, I am totally clueless about football) I get more joy out of planning the menu. It’s the only event that my husband gets to have whatever food he desires. You will not be seeing California rolls, summer rolls, or vegetable-laden foods (my favorites). Instead, traditional and typical finger foods like buffalo hot wings, chips and dip, chili, cookies, and brownies are in order.
To keep the party food year after year less predictable and exciting, I try to twist things up a bit. Who says you can’t mix up the boring, traditional halftime snacks? From wings to brownies, there are many ways to change up the game. Just remember that the guys want something substantial or at least something with meat in them, no fluffy stuff.
So, in case you have not thought of these fool-proof pregame munchies, here are some ideas to kick off your next manly party.
• Potato skins with bacon
• Ham pinwheels in puff pastry
• Beef or pork sliders
• Paninis with cure meats and mozzarella
• Shrimp rumaki (shrimp wrapped in bacon with water chestnuts)
• Sausage-stuffed mushrooms
• Filet mignon with horseradish cream crostini
• Cocktail meatballs with any favorite sauce
• Beef empanadas with salsa
• Beef or chicken quesadillas
• Pizzettes (miniature pizzas with any toppings)
• Pork or chicken satay with peanut sauce
• Tamarind-glazed wings
• Venison chili
• Cappuccino brownies
• Football-shaped, decorated sugar cookies
• Chocolate cupcakes (have fun experimenting with different flavors; try candies like Oreos)
With these fun suggestions, you will be sure to tackle the food game and be the hit of the party!
