Chris Sommers, founder of Pi pizzeria, and his bride, Anne, co-owner of the picture-framing system Indie Mats, were wed downtown on the same day as Game 7 of the 2011 World Series.
“We just pretended those 100,000 people were celebrating for us,” Chris says. They now reside in an old Central West End limestone manse that Chris purchased a year before their nuptials. Their favored spot? The breakfast room. “This is where we do our conspiring, planning, debriefing,” he says. Anne points out that there isn’t a TV or computer in sight.
“This is where we focus on each other,” Chris says. It’s also where they decide on home improvements. “There are wants and there are needs,” Chris says. “And sometimes the needs supersede the wants.” For instance, Anne roots for a new bathroom (probably a want), as opposed to resurfacing the driveway (more likely a need).
The breakfast room is furnished relatively sparsely, with a dining table and chairs; an antique seed cabinet with rows of drawers, each one meticulously labeled; and a beer tap, supplied by Schlafly Beer. Anne points to the tap: “Chris’s pride.” She turns toward the cabinet, and adds, laughing: “My pride—labeled drawers.”
