Ah, to be a new parent. The joy found in hearing those first words, watching those first steps ... it’s bliss. Bliss for 24 hours a day, seven days a week—bliss so all-consuming that you may not find time to shower or sleep, much less go shopping. Ah, bliss.
For new parents who find themselves mired in this delightful state, the prospect of decorating baby’s room can be daunting, when and if they ever get around to considering it at all. That’s where Three Little Ziglets comes in. The online children’s boutique (877-944-5387, threelittleziglets.com) caters to the style-savvy parent who no longer has time to obsess over details by providing entire sets of furniture, bedding and accessories in a number of appealing themes.
Owners Sara Zigman and Lori Huff began the operation over a year ago, merging their skill sets and drawing on the success they’d had individually. “I’ve been doing custom work on my own for almost 10 years now,” explains Mrs. Zigman, the driving creative force behind the endeavor. “And I had worked for Dillard’s for many years,” adds Mrs. Huff, the business director. Both had always dreamed of running their own business, something that would allow them to do what they love but still spend time with the people they love, especially their daughters. Mrs. Huff has two, ages 8 and 10, and Mrs. Zigman has three, the 10-year-old triplets for whom the business is named.
So they came up with a brilliantly simple concept: Offer everything you could ever need to outfit a child’s room in one place. They devised nine original themes, found the highest-quality materials available and painted everything by hand. Themes range from the giddily girly “Vine and Roses,” which partners delicate pink rosebuds with coiling vines and brightly patterned gingham, to the adventurous “Welcome to the Jungle,” a smorgasbord of animal prints. Both Mrs. Zigman and Mrs. Huff admit to a soft spot for “C’est Chic,” a sassy combination of pink polka dots, black swirls and bold lines. “It’s not cutesy,” explains Mrs. Zigman. “It’s a bit more sophisticated, a bit more modern ... it’s made to grow with the child.”
The duo provides both crib and twin bedding, with plans for full- and queen-sized bedding in the works. They plan to debut new lines twice a year and to branch into teen and dorm room furnishings. For now, they’re content to run their business and concentrate on raising their daughters right. Says Mrs. Zigman, “We both like to set an example for our daughters: ‘Look what we can achieve; look what you can achieve. You can achieve your dreams.’”
