I spend hours upon hours reading magazines but I have to admit one of my absolute favorites comes not in the mail but on my computer. If you haven't discovered Lonny, you are in for a treat.
It comes out quarterly and it's fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. The editor's note this month is a video. And in it, the editor in chief, Michelle Adams, announces that there is a new digital magazine on the horizon called Trad Home, a joint effort between Traditional Home and Lonny. The target audience is younger; the first issue out in April will feature the country's top 20 younger designers.
But back to the mothership, Lonny. I always find great ideas, stunning interiors, and wonderful products. But this time around, they help with the Esty dilemma: so many shops, so little time, how do you find the ones to love?
First they suggest a number of search terms: Hollywood Regency, Danish Modern, Barware, Chinoiserie, Eames, Federal, Mid-Century, Bamboo, French, Marble. Then they list some of their favorite shops: Octavia & Brown, High Street Market, Fabulous Mess, Estate Eclectic, Sara Kate Huff, Ione's Attic, Haven Vintage, The Gilded Zebra, Vintage Modern Design, and Neapolitan Paper and Home.
Soooo, I started shopping. (I know, I have THE BEST job in the world.) A smattering of my finds:
From Fabulous Mess, these cool in blue pair of 1950s Mid-century chairs, for just about two grand. Perhaps a bit too grand for most pocketbooks (including mine).
From Estate Eclectic, there are these brass candle sconces are totally doable at $26.
From Sara Kate Huff: this brass bee reminds me of a needle holder my mom once had. Price: $24.
Perhaps my favorite shop of their list is Ione's Attic. Want to keep shape in the shoulders of that dress? How about these tulle covered hangers ($38 for seven). How 50s is that!
Ione has it all, from vintage melamine to a ton of milkglass to giant salvaged industrial numbers ($18.50 for this number four).
Haven Vintage is also a treasure trove of finds. A lover of far away places, I fell hard for this vintage globe ($34).
Of course, the Esty article is one of a trove of great pieces. Go to it now. And be ready. You will go back to each issue over and over again. I do it all the time.
