I’m not a big Halloween person. Usually when I’m not into a holiday, I read up on it and try to get more into it with food. For the sake of my children, this holiday is no exception.
That said, I have seen enough vomiting pumpkins to last a lifetime. I know I’m supposed to be more accepting for one night, but I still find it unappetizing. My clear winner remains the mummy hot dogs, but I have a few new ideas that can get even me inspired for Thursday night. Here are my top three.
The Miniature Pumpkin: Create little pumpkins by peeling whole tangerines or oranges Simply put a little celery stick in the middle of it,and you have a good replica.
If you prefer ghosts, peel a banana and cut it in half. Stand the ghost up on the cut side and create eyes with mini chocolate chips towards the other side of the banana. Lastly, create a mouth with a regular sized chocolate chip.
Another really cute idea was creating spooky teeth. This can be made one of two ways. The first way is to cut an apple so that you have a wedge missing to create lips. Put lemon juice over the exposed apple, then insert almonds to look like teeth. Click HERE for an example.
The second way to make this is using apple wedges, peanut butter (sun butter might be a better option with the prevalence of allergies), and marshmallows. Simply spread the butter over one of the apple wedges and add marshmallows by using the butter as glue. Top with an additional apple wedge.
Happy Halloween, and go Cardinals!
