Dave Zettler, master florist for the Lindbergh Schnucks (10275 Clayton, 314-991-4842, schnucks.com), grew up on a farm in Southern Illinois. His expertise arranging flowers dates back decades, but he’s only been whipping up creative designs for the markets for the last three years. For this project, he kept it simple, quick…and easy.
First, place one end of the wired ribbon an inch down into the glass cube, wrap the ribbon halfway around the outside, and tuck it an inch over the opposite edge. Cut the ribbon, and be sure to bend the wires down so the ribbon stays in place. Repeat the process going the other way. Line the cube with the sheet moss. Leaving the orchid intact in its pot, place it inside the cube. Cover the top of the pot with more moss. Decorate the centerpiece as desired with greenery, ornaments, twigs, etc.
“It’s ready to go,” Zettler says. “It’s easy. And it works with Hanukkah. Just use blue-and-white ribbon. It’s also good for birthdays—and it’s an everyday thing, too.”
