Right now, most people’s thoughts are on Boston and few are on food. I’m right there too. My husband is from Boston and his parents were at the starting line. I am grateful that they were at the beginning of this event and not the end.
I have spent a lot of time in Boston over the last 15 years, and it is a city that is young, vibrant and alive. The news of this attack and the horrifying pictures that followed are not the Boston I know. They are a place I don’t even recognize.
The Boston I love is a mecca of wonderful family, true friends, and beautiful restaurants—serving some of the best food out there. From Toro’s corn to Lumiere’s seared scallops to anything at Blue Ginger, where you can catch a glimpse of Ming Tsai sitting outside before the crowd comes, it is a place fit for foodies. It is the only place you’ll catch me singing Neil Diamond’s "Sweet Caroline" (in the bottom of the 8th at a Red Sox game after having nachos and a microbrew at Boston Beer Works).
Today, I pay homage to my husband’s hometown. Below you will find a few of my favorite recipes or dishes that are synonymous with Boston. There are many more that I’m missing, but these are just to get you started. I suggest you cook one of them and light a candle in memory of those whose lives were forever changed on Monday.
I know I will.
