Few experiences are as frightening as that first foray into an art gallery or, say, an auction at Sotheby’s, or as unsettling as plunking down money for that first piece of art. Although interior designer Jimmy Jamieson has been collecting since he was 19, he recognizes the scenario. So he has teamed up with Susan Sherman—public-relations executive and member of many boards, including the American Ballet Theatre in New York—to open Jamieson/Sherman Fine Art Consultants (314-371-1777). The goal, says Mr. Jamieson, is “to take people into the environment and make them feel comfortable.” But they will do considerably more than that, from helping a person start a collection to escorting him or her to major art fairs and shows, into private collections, and around top-notch galleries. The first consultation is free. “Come to us with no money and tell us what you like, where you are comfortable, and we will help give you the guidelines on where you are going,” Mr. Jamieson says. The consultancy’s focus veers beyond walls to the decorative arts—including furniture, accessories, and books. “What we are doing is sharing our love of art and design,” says Mrs. Sherman.
