I do virtually all of the grocery shopping at my house. It’s not that I’m a control freak--it’s that it is easier. My husband does volunteer to go for me. The problem is that once he gets there, I’m fielding phone calls nonstop and what should be a 15-minute trip usually takes over an hour.
What brand of penne should he buy? What size eggs? Where exactly would he find pimentos? My husband flags down employees, but still, I receive at least a dozen phone calls for every trip to the supermarket. I know that to save my sanity, I just need to be the one who goes to the store.
I have a way to solve this and I should make millions, but I’m not technologically savvy. Instead, because I need this invention, I’m giving the idea away for free and hoping that someone will run with it.
Ready?
I need an app. It’s a GPS for the grocery store. Here’s how it would work. I would scan my item using the existing bar code (if I want to replace something that I just ran out of) or create a list of items from the app. Once the list is created, the user goes to the grocery store, scans a bar code identifying the store and then poof, they’d have a navigation system instructing them how to get to each item. I could even envision a hot and cold game feature for those who need a little more assistance once they are right in front of the item. It could even provide a photo of exactly what they are looking for as a visual cue.
I’m fairly certain that people like me would download this app in a heartbeat. Now we just need a “find my car keys and glasses” app to send them on their way.
