Grapeseed opened its doors last year in the South Hampton neighborhood of St. Louis, and has been impressing guests ever since. The avant-garde culinary experience is courtesy of Owner and Chef Ben Anderson, who uses top-quality seasonal ingredients from local farms to create the one-of-a-kind American cuisine at Grapeseed. All dishes are made from scratch and due to the seasonal ingredients, the menu changes all the time.
Every dish at Grapeseed is a work of art, so it makes sense that the restaurant would host an artist’s reception—this one will highlight the connection between food and visual art, featuring work by Jennifer Hayes, Paul LaFlam, and Erin McGrath Rieke, all of Divinemoira Studio.
Erin McGrath Rieke is the creative director and principal artist at Divinemoira Studio. She works primarily in acrylic, and she often works on the ground. For Rieke, creating art is a form of therapy. Her work is brutally honest, and focuses on inner victory and defeat.
Jennifer Hayes specializes in live painting. Her abstract and figurative paintings celebrate texture, color, and curves. She often paints live at various events in the St. Louis area; .her work can also be seen in many restaurants on the west coast.
Paul LaFlam is also connected to both the culinary and the art world. He once was a chef, and managed a restaurant during a hiatus from painting. When he is working on art, he specializes in large-scale expressionist paintings. Before he starts, he envisions what his art is going to look like, and then completes the painting in one session.
All of these artists will bring their unique works to Grapeseed (5400 Nottingham, 314-925-8525, grapeseedstl.com) on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 6 p.m. This evening of fine art and fine dining will give guests the opportunity to meet the artists in person.
