A spring getaway to the Mile High City means the temperature will be pleasantly mild and you’ll likely hit the tail end of skiing season. Popular ski spots like Breckenridge and Vail don’t close until April 22. Both have new “mountain coasters,” which let visitors buckle into carts and zip down the mountain. Breckenridge’s Gold Runner Alpine Coaster offers a two-seater option; the Forest Flyer Alpine Coaster at Vail slaloms 3,400 feet down the mountain. (You might spot grazing deer if you ride in the morning.)
If slopes and coasters aren’t your thing, schedule time for the Denver Art Museum, the only venue in the nation to win the exhibit Degas: A Passion for Perfection, showcasing works by French artist Edgar Degas, 1855–1906. You’ll also find new attractions, such as the reopened Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art, which will hold a grand opening celebration March 10. The museum holds a vast collection of international decorative art and the preserved early–20th-century studio of its namesake, artist Vance Kirkland. And if you’re looking to beat the St. Louis crowd to a viewing of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, the show runs through April 1 at the Buell Theatre.

Where to Stay
The newly opened and independent Maven Hotel boasts an eclectic art-filled lobby and a little Airstream trailer that serves breakfast. It’s within walking distance of Union Station and Coors Field. Speaking of Union Station, next door is the Kimpton Hotel Born, where guests can enjoy complimentary bicycles and its acclaimed steakhouse, Citizen Rail.
Where to Eat
Split seasonal small plates at Acorn, a modern bar and grill in Denver’s River North District. For something a tad fancier, try house-made pasta or whole roasted fish at Annette (dubbed Denver’s best new restaurant of 2017 by 5280 magazine). Then, for a nightcap, head to Denver’s buzziest new bar, Hearth & Dram, where you’ll find whiskey on tap.
