Though I forgot to ask for my "I Voted" sticker this morning, I did drag my sorry self out of bed at 5am to get to the polls. The line was around the block - which, I am sure, was the case at wherever you voted, if you went this morning. (If you haven't cast a vote yet, you might think of going at an odd hour like 11am or 1:42 or 3pm.) I've also heard that all these businesses that were offering free coffee or donuts or ice cream when you flashed your "I Voted" sticker at the counter now must offer free stuff to everyone, because one coffee for one vote is considered a bribe! So if you're feeling a little droopy-eyed on the way to the polls, you can now get your coffee before you go stand in line for an hour ... or three, as the case may be.
Speaking of stepping into the ring and going mano a mano and may the best man win and all of that jazz, Subterranean Books, which is just down Delmar a piece, unveils a new art show next weekend, "Centric Studios vs. The Firecraker Press:"
"Direct from Ringside at Subterranean Books, it's the Greatest Event in the History of Printmaking, the Heavyweight Battle between Centric Studios and The Firecracker Press. Will Screenprinting come out on top? Or will it be Letterpress? Don't miss out! The free opening reception (and Battle) is Friday, Nov 14th at 7pm at Subterranean Books. The show will be up through Sunday, January 11.
Centric Studios and The Firecracker Press are regional printmaking studios with a long list of clientele and collectors. Centric Studios is a screen printer based out of Belleville that produces both fine art and commercial products, including T-shirts, posters, skateboard decks and marketing materials for regional businesses.
The Firecracker Press uses a letterpress process to produce fine art, T-shirts, posters, and marketing materials for regional businesses, but also maintains a storefront in St. Louis city.
It’s an even match."
So here's to not biting our nails down to the quick as we decide the next president. Good luck at your polling place today, and don't forget to pick up your free donuts on the way. —Stefene Russell
