Trackstar the DJ at The Bootleg.
On Friday, Lorde was at Chaifetz Arena with Swedish pop sensation Tove Stryke and hip hop duo Run the Jewels—who had former St. Louisan Trackstar the DJ in tow. (More on that in a minute).
Stryke, who got her start on Swedish Idol, opened the show with an energetic set. Her sound, which is reminiscent of a poppier, more stylized version of Lana Del Ray, was called out last year by Rolling Stone, specifically for the single "Say My Name." This is her first stadium tour, and it anticipates her third record, Sway, which comes out on May 4.
Now: on to Trackstar the DJ! You may or may not know that he has St. Louis roots—he went to Wash. U., and was a fixture in the local DJ/hip hop scene in the late 90s and early aughts. Because it was a sort of homecoming Trackstar played a gig at The Bootleg at Atomic Cowboy, with DJ Mahf and VThom in tow. Not surprisingly, it was packed. Epic Trackstar quote of the night: "Gabs was born in Madison...but Trackstar was born in St. Louis."
