On Tuesday, the Young Renegades Tour—headlined by All Time Low, with The Wrecks, Waterparks, and SWMRS as supporting bands—attracted a wrap-around-the-block line outside The Pageant.
Our concert photographer, Carrie Zukoski, hung out with SWMRS before the show, shot their portrait (see above), and got a hug from each band member. Singer Max Becker did most of the talking. He said that SWMRS is about community, the band is really eager to see how Midwestern kids respond to their music. (SWMRS, formerly Emily's Army, hail from Oakland, California.) Last March, they played a show at the Firebird with the Frights; judging from the much larger Pageant audience, the kids are responding with full-on support and enthusiasm. The band spent the afternoon in Forest Park ("beautiful") and asked our photog for restaurant recommendations ("Seoul Taco, Mission Taco, Pi or one of the many Thai restaurants nearby the Pageant.") And yes, that’s TLC on Cole’s shirt. (It's his favorite shirt.)
Random feminine hygiene products (unused, but opened) were tossed onto stage during the Waterparks set. The lead singer had to take a moment to comment on that, and while he wasn’t sure what to make of it, he welcomed it. He tossed them back into the crowd, and then a few more got tossed back on stage. Though the crowd responded enthusiastically to all four bands, it was clear that most of them were here to see All Time Low, and were not disappointed—one young fan arrived at 6:30 a.m. for the late afternoon meet and greet.
