The first number, "The Blues Walk," was performed by Lovett's Large Band; he hit the stage for the second song of the night, "Black and Blue."
Lovett and his band nimbly slipped from genre to genre—country, roots, blues, gospel—perfomring a wide-ranging collection of songs dating back to the early days of Lovett's long career, as well as covers (including Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man.") There was even a St. Louis touch when the First Baptist Church of Chesterfield Praise Ensemble joined Lovett and his Large Band onstage for a few gospel numbers.
And as always, Lovett was a class act. Throughout the night, he was always hyper-attentive to his band, as well as to the enrapt audience.
