The members of St. Louis metalcore band Tear Out The Heart have a busy 2015 ahead of them: Dead, Everywhere, released on Victory Records in January, has the group busily touring, as well as playing the occasional local date. We asked vocalist Tyler Konersman to name three key metal/hard rock albums that the group considers key. Here’s his list.
Story of the Year, In the Wake of Determination
A lot of St. Louis people would probably recommend Page Avenue, which was without a doubt a defining record for St. Louis hard rock, but my vote goes toward their sophomore follow-up. It was much more raw and definitely helped stand them apart from the rest of the bands that were popular in the scene at that time. I still jam “‘Is This My Fate,’ He Asked Them” all of the time!
Adair, The Destruction of Everything Is the Beginning of Something New
Way too many people slept on this band, which is a shame. Honestly, a big part of why I make music today is because of this band. This was their first full-length effort, and [it] has a lot to offer as far as post-hardcore music goes. They'll forever have my respect for daring to bring something new to the music industry.
Calico System, They Live
Couldn't have this list without mentioning Calico System. Another big influence of mine growing up in the STL music scene. These guys were the kings of what they did around town, and maybe a decent splash on the music industry as a whole. Became good friends with these guys, too, over the years. Awesome dudes.
