The 105.7 HoHo concert series kicked off Wednesday night at Stifel Theatre with Canadian musician Grandson and California alt rockers Young the Giant. Grandson—at least his second time in six months playing St. Louis—opened the night with the crowd still filtering in. Known for not keeping quiet on issues, songs in the set included "6:00" and "Overdose," in reference to the state of mental health in America.

Young the Giant, on tour supporting their fourth album Mirror Master, which came out October 12, started the night with "Oblivion," from the new album but also played fan favorite "Something to Believe In" as well as "Cough Syrup," from their 2010 debut. Lead singer Sameer Gadhia has a lyrical and melodic voice; The New York Times has called him “one of the great contemporary rock voices.” On the band's upcoming 10-year-anniversary, Gadhia told The Chicago Tribune: "We are still very young at heart, and we still enjoy each other’s company, and we all live, like, a quarter of a mile away from each other, and are always writing. If anything, we’re writing even more and are hungrier now, because things are different and a little scary (out there), but I think that’s what makes it exciting, and what motivates us to challenge ourselves."
