Pokey LaFarge is a staple when it comes to Midwest-bred musicians. With his 7-piece band and staccato crooning, LaFarge's sound is reminiscent of any good party from the Roaring '20s. But with the band's incredible rhythm and the retro, bluesy vocals, LaFarge makes a refreshing impression in a world of auto-tuned pop music.
This summer—after the release of his latest album, Something In The Water—LaFarge and his band have toured across the globe. "We've been to Australia, New Zealand, across Europe, Canada, and the USA," he writes in an email to SLM. "It's been very entertaining, as well as rewarding." But the singer, born in Illinois and based in St. Louis, is fond of his roots. "I'll always remember those early Off Broadway shows with The Vultures and The Monads."
Pokey LaFarge performs Sunday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m. For more information, visit loufest.com.
