Months ago, St. Louis Magazine caught up with Kennedy Holmes, the St. Louis teen and former Muny kid competing on The Voice just after the singing competition season's premiere. We, along with the rest of the country, said she's one to watch, and the Florissant native made it all the way to the finals, which aired on NBC this week. During the Tuesday-night finale of the show, it was revealed that Kennedy placed fourth.
But not before NBC nearly made us lose our collective mind waiting for the results.
Many, many people on the Internet were upset with the results.
Some people wanted other Voice contestants to win from the beginning, but we're not going to talk about that...
Kennedy was nothing if not grateful.
For the final episode, Kennedy sang "When Love Takes Over" with Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child. Let's take a look back at some of our other favorite performances by Kennedy.
First, the performance that started it all: Kennedy's blind audition cover of Adele's "Turning Tables." Voice judge Adam Levine, of Maroon 5, was first to turn his chair around, signaling that he wanted Kennedy to pick him for her coach. Fans will also remember that this was when Voice judge and country artist Blake Shelton told Kennedy she was the best vocalist to audition this year. "I don't want you to get distracted by the fact that I'm a country artist, and you're the greatest artist of all time," Shelton said.
This was also the performance where one of Kennedy's dreams came true: She got to perform with Voice judge Jennifer Hudson. The two sang Hudson's "I Am Changing" from the movie Dreamgirls. Kennedy eventually selected Hudson as her Voice coach.
Never forget when Kennedy embodied for one night Beyoncé with a cover of "Halo."
For the Voice's finale, each finalist had to perform a solo, an original song, and a duet with their coach. Kennedy and Hudson sang a duet to a song by another queen—Stephanie Mills' "Home," from The Wiz. Are they inside a giant crown? Fitting.
For her finale solo performance, Kennedy performed a Demi Lovato song, "Confident," complete with a marching band.
Also during the finale, Kennedy got to debut an original song, "Love Is Free." Here she is singing:
