Here’s just a sampling of shows across the region, perfect places to have a romantic picnic, get your kids out of the house, or just soak in some tunes under the stars.
Sunday
The Gateway Festival Orchestra of St. Louis performs free concerts at Washington University’s grassy Brookings Quadrangle on four Sundays in July. Ted Drewes is available for purchase.
Monday
Grab a to-go order from a nearby restaurant and take a seat on the front lawn of Clayton City Hall for a free lunchtime concert during this month’s May Musical Mondays. Sure, the grass stains will come out of your suit.
Tuesday
Bring some chairs and a picnic to the front lawn of the Missouri History Museum for Twilight Tuesdays. In addition to the concert, there are activities for kids, such as face-painting and crafts.
Wednesday
The Whitaker Music Festival brings live music to the botanical garden. Clayton’s Parties in the Park are held the second Wednesday of each month, and Music on Main presents concerts in St. Charles on third Wednesdays.
Thursday
Now in its 10th year, the Whitaker Urban Evening Series aims to aid the revitalization of North St. Louis with free concerts and family activities in St. Louis Place Park, just a stone’s throw from Crown Candy Kitchen.
Friday
Dance with a cheetah (or near a cheetah) to the sweet sounds of local bands at Jungle Boogie, held at the Saint Louis Zoo’s Schnuck Family Plaza.
Saturday
This is another busy day, with concerts held in many area parks. If you like to listen to music while shopping for turnips, don’t miss Tunes at 10, a series hosted by the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market.
