Photos: Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker ring in 2019 at The Pageant

Both bands are led by the same frontman and include some of the same band members.

Two successful bands from the '80s and '90s, Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker, are both led by the same frontman and include some of the same band members. So when touring, it’s only logical to make it an entire evening of both bands. That’s exactly what Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker did during their annual winter tour, making a stop in St. Louis on New Year’s Eve at The Pageant.

Camper Van Beethoven kicked the night off with a devoted fanbase and played their hits—rustic and sometimes gypsy-polka-sounding tunes that included several jams—for an hour. David Lowery lent his distinctive vocals to favorites including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" as well as "Good Guys and Bad Guys," "The Long Plastic Hallway," "Sweethearts," and a medley that included a Fiddler on the Roof tune.

Lowery returned with band Cracker and played for another hour and a half. The band wasn't much for banter, opting instead to flow from one song right into another...and Cracker was so into the set, the group almost missed the countdown to 2019. (They made it just in time.) Lowery wished everyone a happy New Year and congratulated Cracker on “still being around to be able to do this for all you wonderful people." Songs included "Seven Days," "How Can I Live Without You," "Get Off This," and "Low."
