There was lots of leather in the room when Black Rebel Motorcycle Club played Delmar Hall

Not a surprise, of course. Aside from the sartorial notes, the band was in fine form, and did not disappoint.

There was lots leather in the room at Delmar Hall last night for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's gig. There were also lots and lots of St. Louis musicians, engineers, and general music types. Always a good sign you're at the right show, and that you won't be disappointed, at least where the musical chops are concerned.

Before BRMC emerged, though, the audience was treated to an opening set by Night Beats, a Seattle-based psych-garage band. They were an absolutely complementary choice; Robert Levon Been even joined them for the last few songs.

As great as Night Beats was, the audience was clearly patiently anticpating BRMC. That patience was rewarded: the band put on a totally solid performance, playing songs from its back catalog as well as material from the new record, Wrong Creatures. Focused was the overall word of the night: the band didn't dillydally with banter or conversation with the audience. They were here to play; they came out, and went from one song straight into the next. But the audience, despite looking desperately fashionable in lots and lots of leather, was here for the music, too. No complaints.
