The Missouri History Museum, which has just finished a major overhaul of its website—and is busy doing a pretty amazing renovation of the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum downtown—has other big news to share this morning. The Missouri Historical Society, the entity that oversees not just the museum, but MoHist's library and archives, and the aforementioned Soldiers' Memorial, has just been nominated for a huge award by the The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). They have named MHS as one of the 29 finalists for its 2018 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. Via a press release:
"The National Medal is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries for service to their communities. For 24 years, the award has celebrated institutions that demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service and are making a difference for individuals, families, and communities."
The org is encouraging the city to express its love and support of MHS as part of its process:
"Finalists for the National Medal are chosen because of their significant and exceptional contributions to their communities. IMLS is encouraging community members who have visited the Missouri Historical Society to share their story on social media on Monday, April 9. To #ShareYourStory, please visit www.facebook.com/USIMLS or www.twitter.com/us_imls and use #IMLSmedals.
National Medal winners will be announced later this spring. Representatives from winning institutions will be honored for their extraordinary contributions at the National Medal Ceremony on May 24 in Washington, D.C.
To see the full list of finalists and learn more about the National Medal, visit the IMLS website."
Congrats, MHS!
